Things to Do for Free in the Bay Area – Spring & Summer Edition

Need a cheap date or family outing?  Below I’ve compiled a list of free things to do in the Bay Area.

Movie in the Park

Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Cupertino, San Mateo, and San Francisco are a few cities to host free movies in the park.  A quick Google search will help you figure out event dates and times.

Art & Wine Festival

Again another quick Google search will help to figure out when each city will host their art & wine festival.  Entry is free and usually live music is playing in the background.

Hiking

The Bay Area offers lots of hiking trails from walking along a flat shoreline at Shoreline Park to an intense climb with vista views like Mission Peak in Fremont.  Some of my favorite hikes have been through Muir Woods, Mount Diablo, and Big Basin.

Street Fairs and Festivals in San Francisco

If you’re an extrovert and thrive in a social setting, definitely check out one of the many free street fairs and festivals that San Francisco hosts throughout the spring and summer months.  There’s lots of music, culture, and plenty of moments to mingle.

The Stern Grove Festival in San Francisco hosts free Sunday concerts from 2pm – 4:30pm, and is on a first come first serve basis.  Definitely check out their site for the concert schedule.

4th of July Fireworks

The Bay Area hosts many free fireworks shows and parades all throughout the Bay.

A Checklist Before an International Trip

We are less than a month away until our international trip.  I still haven’t researched things to do in the country we will be visiting, and I have a few things to take care of before jetting off.  I thought I’d share my checklist of things to do before our trip to hopefully help someone else with their own travels.  Thanks for stopping by!

Notify Your Bank of an International Trip

Make sure you tell your bank and credit card companies of your trip or else you may find your cards not working abroad.

Double Check If You Need a Visa to Enter the Country

I’ve double checked and we are okay.

Do Currency Exchange in Advance

I like to use Travelex so we don’t have to deal with currency exchange at the airport.

Figure Out Transportation from the Airport to the Hotel

I still haven’t researched how to get to our hotel once we land.  We may just pay for the convenience of a taxi.

Pay Rent and Other Bills Before You Take Off

Since we’re leaving on May 1, we need to make sure we pay rent.
